REFLECTION ON AUGUST NEWSLETTER

This time, I have worked as a reporter and have reported about the things happening in the Diploma Programme such as CAS work( service work in ashram),Talent show, election, status of students involved in making TOK presentations and extended  essay.

While reporting for the scenario of Diploma students, I felt that these days, they were too busy and tensed with the completion of the work assigned to them. For example making and giving TOK presentations, completion of extended essays.

Most students faced difficulty in completing their essay as some of them realized that their topic is not proper or they are unable to carry their research with that decided topic and there is a need to change the topic.
Some students went out of their town for the surveys and interviews.Because of which , they faced difficulty in completing their routine tasks.

But there were students, who have kept the deadline in their mind and have completed their essay on time and have submitted it to their advisors. At the same time, they have also given their TOK presentations to their teacher and have given it in the class also.

Even they also go to ashram for service work every Saturday for two hours and perform their tasks needfully. Even two of my classmates have taken part in the talent show, which was held in the school. Even, on 15th august, three students of diploma programme have become member of student council. Therefore everyone was involved in some or the other activity this month.

The learning outcome is that I became aware that, every one faces different kind of difficulty and one should just try to overcome it with easiness and should not lose hope. Once, even I was tensed with meeting of deadlines but as I started working with full pro activeness, I completed my essay and presentation on time .

CAMPAIGNING FOR REMOVAL OF FEMALE INFANTICIDE

Female infanticide is very common in many place of the country. People wishes for male child and adopt various method to have male child. Some questions always arise in my mind, such as how can a female abort a female child? How is she unable to understand the happiness a female child gives? How can she be so unkind to a new unborn baby? How can she forget that she herself is a female? Why doesn’t she think that if she would have been aborted by her parents during her birth time then?

Sometimes I think that she might be asked to do such crime under the dominance of her family or husband but still I think, doesn’t she have the dare to make her family understand? These all questions remain unanswered forever.

I also think that this happens mainly because of the poor thinking; people do not have the ability to think broadly. They think for themselves and for their own fortune. Why don’t they think that getting every baby is important and cheerful phase of life? There should not be any discrimination between genders. God have made genders for the different reasons such as different genders (males and females) act as a couple and stand in every obstacle together, they help each other, and they live for each other.

Just think once about only existence of male or females around the world, is it possible for one to survive? I don’t think so, the reason is simple, and women are associated with some work of life that men can’t do such as household work, care for her family, bringing up children. Can we expect this kind of roles from men? If yes, will they perform as efficiently as a woman does? Now answer is no. Everybody needs to accept the fact that women play a major role and their work is as equivalent and important to any other work done by men.

Even our Indian history has got so many female leaders who stood against so many men for the independence and freedom. Not only Indian histories but think about various women such Indira Gandhi, who did good things for the nation. Think about females who are involved in various sports, which are equally played by men. Today, if you look around, you will see various girls in different schools and colleges, who are learning and scoring same or more than boys. Then what is the need of cursing a female child? Why is it required? What makes you think that female child should be aborted?
Just try to think; if we give same importance and treatment as boys to girls, then don’t you think country’s productivity will be enhanced? It will increase the contribution to country’s development.

REFLECTION ON JULY NEWSLETTER

This time, I worked as an interviewer and took an interview of two new students in DP 1, who are from Korea. I planned and made questions before the actual interview. I felt that framing questions gives wider view and made me think for many perspectives, which I can ask or clarify to them during an interview.

During an interview, I felt that they were not hesitant to express their real view about school and new curriculum. I perceived that they were happy to study IB curriculum as it gives them more practical and real experience. They told me that, they never liked Korea’s curriculum as it had more learning component, whereas IB gives them chance to think independently and take decision on the result of their thinking.
I think, this activity has given me a chance to enhance my new skill and to learn of how to ask or make an interviewee comfortable. I also learned that, while taking an interview, if an interviewee is unable to understand the question, one should try to reframe the question in more convenient and easy way.

I faced little difficulty in conversing as they were not so fluent with Language, English. Still I tried to express my views through body language and by reframing the sentences. I also realized that they also take lot of effort to understand and interpret the conversation. The learning outcome is that I become aware about my skill and how to conduct interview and what measure I should take while taking interview.Through this activity, I have developed the skill of planning the task or activity.

REFLECTION ON PLANTATION

Plantation has become very necessary in today’s world. It will help us to restore our natural resources, which will further be beneficial for new generation. Since it has become a need to reduce exploitation of plants, we DP students thought to plant some saplings into our school campus. This activity was done under the supervision of Jackson Joy, CAS advisor.

This activity was divided between eight students and each student planted around 8-10 saplings. During planting, I felt that one need to dig ground properly so that these new saplings will have proper intake of food, water and sunlight, hence they will be able to carry out proper photosynthesis.

I also learned that one should remove plastic bag from sapling and then plant it and also after planting, one need to fill the left space with appropriate amount of soil. This will ensure that no harm is caused to sapling by high speed of wind or rain. Even we students discarded the plastic bag in garbage bin and did not put at the place of saplings.
After completion of this activity, we decided to take care of these small plants by proper supply of water and other requirements every day.

REFLECTION ON GROUND DEVELOPMENT.

We, the students of IBDP took the initiative to develop the sports field for our school which, due to some reason were not prepared. Having no playground was really sad as our little kids at school had to run about in the corridor or hop around in the small stony patch which was functioning as the only clear area. So we decided to build our sports ground under the guidance of our PE Teacher, Mr. Jackson Joy. We started with our research process, referring to many books and internet for the dimension of various sports fields.
Along with my classmates, I got involved in making a volleyball court, a football field, a cricket pitch and a 400 metre track around it. I have done lot of research on the dimension and marking of sports field. So I came to know that for standard International court dimension for football is between 110 to 120 yards in length and between 70 to 80 yards in width, for volley ball the length is 18 mts and width is 9 mts First, we decided the location for the football , volleyball and cricket ground. The ground available for us was measuring 173mts by 83mts.
After finalizing the location, we marked a football ground of 80 mts by 45mts and fixed the football post and decided to leave the space left for the cricket ground.

I feel that Ground development is a real task as it requires lot of physical effort and knowledge. Through this activity I gained knowledge of dimension of various field, I am very happy to be associated with this work as it will not only help me to use this information for building up such fields in future but my junior school friends will be benefited from these grounds and we will be remembered forever for this great work.
The added bonus was that, the new sporting fields have started to attract even those reluctant unsporting people to come and join in games like Volleyball, football, etc.

The learning outcome is that I have got a new skill of how  make basket ball court or football ground. I enhanced the skill of how to get information and how to apply it to make foundation of the ground. The ethical implication involved in this activity is that this ground will be utilized by the other students of the school. This ground will act as a platform for them to enhance the skill of sports.

SINGING SONG

Singing song during camp fire was very much challenging as I have not got a good voice for singing nor i have sung infront of so many people before. But as everyone got together and sat sown for singing,it encouraged me and became a real task for me. Before singing, I was confused with the selection of song and was tensed. But as my turn came, I prepared myself and forgot all my weakness and sung a rajasthani song with full spirit, and then I was so relaxed but I was happy that I did it, which is most important and one should give try to everything. I learned that confidence overcome every obstacle and felt that that is the needy factor within me.

RAFTING OF 14KM

Rafting was a good activity which I appreciated a lot among all the activities. i wore shorts with t-shirt as wearing full covered clothes was useless as it would have got wet . Then later on, for rafting we were given life jacket to protect ourselves and to be prevented. We did rafting for 14km.i was made to sit on the edge of raft and was given the role of paddling. It was fun and nice experience,on paddling I felt difficulty as water puts lot of pressure on paddle ,which restricts the paddle to move. I overcome that and tried to do it. I was successful in doing it and did for longer period of time. This instilled a quality within me of how to do paddling. I learned the way of paddling. In between of the way we were asked to get down of the raft for swimming and I got down twice and did swimming of a small distance as water was very cold which did not allow me to swim for larger distance. It was a nice experience.

This activity took place in solang. Initially I was scared a lot as it was like a ball with which rolls very fast as it get down of the way. But as I went inside of it I was tied to it with belt and there was another girl with me, she was also tied with belts. She was made to sit however I was made to stand. As it started rolling, we started shouting, I felt I was rotating .but when it stopped ,I felt why didn’t it continue. as I was amazed with zorbing and was interested in doing it again. There were many students who layed down the ball .Seeing them,i felt like doing it,so i also layed on the way of the rolling ball and as ball went over me,i felt like something has pased me.

VISIT TO ROHTANG PASS

Rohtang pass ia a place, which is 42 km awway from manali. On way of rohtang, the weather was changed as it was raining and we were jam-packed. So we started dancing in between of the way, which was very enjoying and amazing as I felt that’s how one should go ,this made me confident and my shyness was vanished .Dancing in the way ,which is surrounded by snow was very much amazing as I have never thought of experiencing such dance. we received snow fall, which made atmosphere very cold. To survive in such cold weather was challenging but we were trained, so we were able to walk in snow we were there for longer time and that too without having wooly clothes that one get on the way to rohtang. I was in my normal jeans that I wear on normal temperature but was having a jacket with rain coat on it. Still I was able to be in that weather was a real task.

CLEANING CAMP-SITE

To prevent environment from getthing polluted, I along with my group members thought to clean camp site.We thought ,this will contribute to protect environment. Cleaning camp site was also a task, I was given a role to pick up all garbage and dump it in soil and dustbin. I was given gloves and mask to cover mouth so that no dust gets inside. I did job actively, I picked up all wrappers, I went in search for garbage and collected and dump it in dustbin.i dumped napkins and wet paper soaps into the soil. I cleaned toilets and filled all the buckets with water so that everyone uses washrooms easily. I felt I was very much successful as I did it very efficiently and camp site was cleaned .I came to know that I can do such kind of work, and I don’t find it to be bad or undesirable activity. Other members of, my group performed different role and participated actively and made the camp site cleaned. I felt difficulty in duping the napkins but I did it by forgetting that it is of someone’s else and dumped it. This was challenging but I overcame it and did it.
