REFLECTION ON TEACHING STUDENTS OF ASHRAM

This time, my classmates and I were accompanied by our TOK sir, mr. Anil Kashyap. As I had already planned to teach a math lesson on profit and loss.  When I went there, I introduced the lesson to my students with real life examples. I explained them, when and how we earn profit or loss. I gave them the examples such as purchase of chocolates or any commodity at rupees twenty and selling it at rupees thirty will give us profit and selling of that chocolate or commodity at a price less than rupees twenty will give us loss.
Even I made them understand through their own examples such as they went to purchase bags and clothes  at a particular price and then sold it at a price higher than cost price will make them earn profit and vice versa. Then I gave them some short question to solve and fill in the blanks, which both of them solved properly.
The outcomes were that they were able to understand the meaning of profit and loss. Although they were facing problem in using formula, while solving the questions, but I explained them and made the formula easy, but I felt that there is a need of lot of practice. So I decided to proceed with the same topic for next time also.
To keep their interest high in studies, I drew some pictures in their notebook and made them to write a story or a short paragraph on it.  This made them a little happy and they enjoyed in telling verbally then writing but I made them write and told them my own point of view about the pictures. This gave them different perspective of thinking.
I felt that one of my students, Bhushan is too moody. He does not like to learn or write more. He is much interested in art. So I always need to make him understand the importance of studies. Sometimes, I do get frustrated as he does not try to understand even after explaining with different examples. But then I feel I should teach him best so I keep on trying to teach him.
Now, I even realize how my teachers feel, if their student does not learn or respond them properly. But again, I am learning to deal with situations so I keep myself patient like my teachers and keep on trying to do best.
The learning outcome involved in this activity is that I took new challange to teach these students. I have commited that I will teachthem roperly and with sincerity. I became aware about the strength that I have ability to teach students with different examples and methods.

REFLECTION ON TEACHING STUDENTS OF ASHRAM

As all DP students have taken initiative to teach students. Therefore it has become our responsibility to do it in a continued and proper manner. To ensure this, I have planned to teach origami craft work and math lessons till next week.
This time I taught them, the method of simplifying ratios and divisibility test. Initially it was very difficult as they were not so thorough with their tables and were unable to reduce greater number into smaller number.

To go through this obstacle, I explained the method of reducing number based on their divisibility test. For example how to reduce number 63 into smaller number such as 21.I told them that one need to check that in which table that particular number falls or is divisible by it.

Although I explained them but they were still having problems in solving questions but then I made them solve many questions to enhance their confidence level. After solving few questions based on simplifying ratios, I taught them craft work, which they further pasted on the large chart paper and stuck on the wall.

I felt that teaching the concept of simplifying ratio along with divisibility test is not so easy as I need to repeat the procedure again and again, even I have solved more than eight times to make them understand. Although simplifying the ratios is easy but as they were new to this concept and they were weak in their tables, they were finding it difficult.

I learned that the concepts, which are new to the students, require lot of explanation using different examples. But at the same time, Basics things need to be cleared such as tables.

But I feel, it’s my duty to make concepts easy to them, so I will continue to teach them with different, easy and appropriate method.

The learning outcome is that I become aware about the work of a teacher and how a teacher deals with  the problems of  students. I particulary developed a skill of taking challenge, which benefiits other people. Through this activity , I have been able to enhance the learning skill of students also. Education is a important global issue. Education helps the country to develop. Therefore through this activity the students will be having wide  knowledge.

REFLECTION ON TEACHING STUDENTS OF ASHRAM

‘’Education is a chief defense of our nation’’. In India, lot many people are unemployed because they are not educated and since they lack in required skills, they are exploited. To ensure that people are not being exploited, we the students of IBDYPIS took an initiative to teach students, who are going to enhance further productivity of our nation.

I planned to teach only craft work but then I decided to teach craft work along with academics. I felt that both things will help students to develop their knowledge and their skills. When I went there, I perceived that students are really interested in learning art work, they enjoyed learning.

I started with origami craft work, which included box making, bag making etc. I thought to teach something, which is useful to them and easy in learning. After teaching craft work, I started a new Hindi lesson on rainy season, which included discussion and written response.

On taking written response from students, I recognized that although they knew answers but they were unable to express it properly. So I made them rewrite all the answers properly and ensured that they will not repeat those mistakes again.
I learned that students require lot of written practice and continuous oral revision as they lack in proper pronunciation of many words. So I thought to take oral revision from every next class.

REFLECTION ON TEACHING STUDENTS OF ASHRAM

This time, when I went to teach students of ashram So,I noticed that they were waiting for me. They were excited to learn new things in craft. Basically This time, I taught them craft work such as, how to make handy bags, container etc. This time I taught them the useful things such that they can make use of box, bag to carry things. My aim was to teach some items which can be use in daily life.

I took lot of colour papers and distributed among students and told them to follow the instructions. As I was doing the foldings of paper, they were also following the same procedure.

As they completed the making of craft, I told them to make all items again on their own, without my guidance. My intention was that , when I am not with them, they can make those items on their own and make use of them properly and increase their productivity and knowledge.

After completing craft work, we started with math lesson on division and finding of square roots. Basically I started with introduction of division and roots. Then I taught them the method of how to get square roots. After teaching procedure, I solved many problems related to the concept as examples and then I gave them some question to solve.

They were able to solve and were comfortable with the procedure of division. Then I gave home work on same lesson. I learned that They pay lot of attention towards craft . They learn it with interest and are happy to learn it.

The learning outcome involved in this activity is that I have taken a new challenge and I have already planned about the activty. I learned that teaching can be one of the area, where I can grow in future. I have come to know about myself that I am able to take risk and fulfill the challenge with commitment.

REFLECTION ON TEACHING STUDENTS OF GOVERNMENT ASHRAM

Teaching someone is a real task as it requires lot of confidence and knowledge about the subject that one teaches.   When I met students of government ashram, I felt that they are very much interested in studies and craft work.  Their level of studies is as same as any other student studying in state board. I liked that they are studying   the books which are of their level i.e. they have been allotted the class according to their age.
Initially I introduced myself to them and made them feel that I am not a teacher   instead I am like their sister, who will guide them and enhance their way of thinking and understanding of the knowledge. I am teaching three students, Bushan, Sandeep and Mrunal. Bhushan and Sandeep are in seventh grade and Mrunal is in eighth grade.
After Introduction, I taught them card making through spreading of colors in form of feathers on the middle of the page and then cutting it and pasting it on the card. After making card, Bhushan is having problem in reading so I made him read with me many times and made him understand the meanings of the lesson (natural science).Similarly Sandeep had problem in finding square roots. So I helped him by teaching an easy method of getting square roots .Mrunal was much interested in coloring so, I gave him the paper to color and he enjoyed doing it.
I learned that what are the problem that a student faces and how to deal with that problem, being a guide. I also felt that if we teach them, what they like then they show more interest to it and devote themselves to work more nicely.
