REFLECTION ON JULY NEWSLETTER

This time, I worked as an interviewer and took an interview of two new students in DP 1, who are from Korea. I planned and made questions before the actual interview. I felt that framing questions gives wider view and made me think for many perspectives, which I can ask or clarify to them during an interview.

During an interview, I felt that they were not hesitant to express their real view about school and new curriculum. I perceived that they were happy to study IB curriculum as it gives them more practical and real experience. They told me that, they never liked Korea’s curriculum as it had more learning component, whereas IB gives them chance to think independently and take decision on the result of their thinking.
I think, this activity has given me a chance to enhance my new skill and to learn of how to ask or make an interviewee comfortable. I also learned that, while taking an interview, if an interviewee is unable to understand the question, one should try to reframe the question in more convenient and easy way.

I faced little difficulty in conversing as they were not so fluent with Language, English. Still I tried to express my views through body language and by reframing the sentences. I also realized that they also take lot of effort to understand and interpret the conversation. The learning outcome is that I become aware about my skill and how to conduct interview and what measure I should take while taking interview.Through this activity, I have developed the skill of planning the task or activity.

REFLECTION ON PLANTATION

Plantation has become very necessary in today’s world. It will help us to restore our natural resources, which will further be beneficial for new generation. Since it has become a need to reduce exploitation of plants, we DP students thought to plant some saplings into our school campus. This activity was done under the supervision of Jackson Joy, CAS advisor.

This activity was divided between eight students and each student planted around 8-10 saplings. During planting, I felt that one need to dig ground properly so that these new saplings will have proper intake of food, water and sunlight, hence they will be able to carry out proper photosynthesis.

I also learned that one should remove plastic bag from sapling and then plant it and also after planting, one need to fill the left space with appropriate amount of soil. This will ensure that no harm is caused to sapling by high speed of wind or rain. Even we students discarded the plastic bag in garbage bin and did not put at the place of saplings.
After completion of this activity, we decided to take care of these small plants by proper supply of water and other requirements every day.

REFLECTION ON GROUND DEVELOPMENT.

We, the students of IBDP took the initiative to develop the sports field for our school which, due to some reason were not prepared. Having no playground was really sad as our little kids at school had to run about in the corridor or hop around in the small stony patch which was functioning as the only clear area. So we decided to build our sports ground under the guidance of our PE Teacher, Mr. Jackson Joy. We started with our research process, referring to many books and internet for the dimension of various sports fields.
Along with my classmates, I got involved in making a volleyball court, a football field, a cricket pitch and a 400 metre track around it. I have done lot of research on the dimension and marking of sports field. So I came to know that for standard International court dimension for football is between 110 to 120 yards in length and between 70 to 80 yards in width, for volley ball the length is 18 mts and width is 9 mts First, we decided the location for the football , volleyball and cricket ground. The ground available for us was measuring 173mts by 83mts.
After finalizing the location, we marked a football ground of 80 mts by 45mts and fixed the football post and decided to leave the space left for the cricket ground.

I feel that Ground development is a real task as it requires lot of physical effort and knowledge. Through this activity I gained knowledge of dimension of various field, I am very happy to be associated with this work as it will not only help me to use this information for building up such fields in future but my junior school friends will be benefited from these grounds and we will be remembered forever for this great work.
The added bonus was that, the new sporting fields have started to attract even those reluctant unsporting people to come and join in games like Volleyball, football, etc.

The learning outcome is that I have got a new skill of how  make basket ball court or football ground. I enhanced the skill of how to get information and how to apply it to make foundation of the ground. The ethical implication involved in this activity is that this ground will be utilized by the other students of the school. This ground will act as a platform for them to enhance the skill of sports.
